He sought out the warg, Simon, after learning more about the man. When Simon saw him, he recognized him for what he was. The wargs were signature readers. He could not read the signature of Lysander as a stallion. None could see the signature or the auras of those from the Dorcha. He wondered if someone had told the man about him? Danny always said he was more horse than man. Maybe it was his mannerisms that clued the warg into what Lysander was. The low warning growl told Lysander that the alpha male resurrected canine knew that Lysander wanted something from him. In a way that made things easier. Simon would see Lysander’s request as evidence that he was serious about Sable and not simply toying with her. “What do you want, Lysander?” That Simon knew his name gave Lysander only a moment of pause. Sable must have shared their meetings with her protector. That was reasonable. “I want Sable as my lead mare. I have come to ask for her.” Lysander decided to just jump right in and answer Simon with the truth. Denying her as his choice was a waste of time. “Why do you come to me?” Simon was still growling. “I was under the impression that the human shadow mage was under your protection. I am honorable. I am clean. I have honest work and a position here. She is my All, but I would not have a misunderstanding where she is concerned.” Lysander admitted his thought process to the warg commander. “She is royalty, a princess. The Demon Lord Leviathan has claimed the human female as one of his. I could intercede on your behalf, but I am disinclined to do so. You are little more than a vampiric horse. Sable deserves more than just a place in a harem. She should be the one and only not a toy for the moment.” Simon barked at him. The resurrected damn dog was not hearing sound reasoning. “What would I need to do to cause you to be inclined to intercede on my behalf?” Lysander knew a negotiation when one was offered to him. He would be willing to bargain only so long as he won what he had come for. He ignored the slurs. Wargs had odd notions about the lofty status of women. “Tell me, Cheval Mallet. You are a born first-order immortal. You may choose any. Why Sable? She is emotionally damaged and physically disfigured. Many beautiful women would not mind sharing their mate with others. Choose one of them and leave my sister alone.” Simon warned, calmly attempting to dissuade him. It was not happening. Lysander needed Sable. She was All there was in the Dream. His words did not make Lysander calm either. They angered him. Simon claimed Sable as his sister yet he disparaged her appearance and health. Simon’s answer had him blowing hard and stomping the ground even as a man. “You, who is her protector, would malign her? How dare you speak of Sable as if she were less than? You are lacking in faculty where she is concerned. I would love her whole and entire. She would have no disfigurement. Physical beauty does not hold a candle to what she is. Her mental state is easily fixed by a dominant male protector. Perhaps you are simply not such a one. Your inability to serve as a proper champion for her should not be to her detriment. Give her protection to me. I am strong enough to do as I say. I lack neither the desire nor the power to care for her properly.” The dead hound should recognize Lysander as a superior suitor to Sable.
