Description

Books, Beach and Booze! Everyone in the beach town of Turtle Point comes to Ghostwriters, the craziest Bookbar on the Atlantic coast, where the party doesn’t end until sunrise as people read their favorite books while sipping their favorite adult beverages. The owner, an effervescent Redhead named Sienna McCaslin, loves two things: her Bookbar and her best friend, Pulitzer Prize winning author, Jasper George, who lost his passion for writing after a personal tragedy. The only thing Jasper writes these days is his name on a bar tab since he lives life at the bottom of a bourbon bottle. Sienna is desperate to bring him back to the living, and her prayers are answered when a young woman comes to town looking for help with her manuscript. However, Sienna’s plan backfires when Jasper’s mentoring of the aspiring author takes him further away from her, and when the manuscript is finished, Jasper is offered a job at the top literary agency in New York. Sienna knows her love is in vain, so she is the one who leaves Turtle Point first by selling Ghostwriters and starting a new life in wine country. Unfortunately, Jasper realizes he loves her, but is it too late to bring her home before he loses his Redheaded girl and Ghostwriters forever?

Excerpt

Piper was unmoved. “Will you help me or not?” “Well, let me discuss it with my fan club.” “You have a fan club?” “Yeah, but it broke up a few weeks ago. The guy died.” Again, Piper did not smile. “Sorry to drink and run, which I try not to do since it always ends badly, but I must.” “Where are you going?” "I am going to the little writer’s room. I would invite you in, but I hardly know you.” Jasper told Kirby, “Have T-Bone send over a brown while I’m gone. It will give me something to look forward to.” He walked past Piper, making idle chitchat with the crowd as he walked. Piper followed. “Mr. George,” she called out. He turned and said, “Although I find your silky black hair and confidence extremely attractive, and those blue eyes are making my knees weak, I must ask you to leave me alone for the next few minutes or I will do something I haven’t since I was two years old.” “Is there a reason you won’t help me?” “Look, Pipper.” “It’s Piper.” “I know. But I think Pipper suits you better, especially when you have that look in your eyes.” “What look?” “The look that says you won’t take no for an answer.” He escaped into the men’s room. Piper waited a few minutes, and when he failed to reappear, knocked on the door. From inside she heard Jasper yell, “Shit and shove it under the door, will ya?” “I’m not leaving until you come out and speak with me.” Finally, she heard the water running, then the door opened, and he appeared. He looked her over, and with a smile said, “Well, well. If it isn’t the treacherous Pipper Marbury. I think I saw your picture in the dictionary under persistence. And also, under the phrase, ‘pain in the ass’.” Piper straightened her shoulders and stood firm. “What are you afraid of? It sure as hell isn’t me.” Before Jasper could speak, she beat him to the punch. “You could give so much back to the world, but you’re pissing it away just sitting here doing nothing. Your book inspired a generation.” Her speech wiped the smile off his face. He looked down, shook his head gently, and told her, “The world doesn’t need me. The world needs to end hunger and to stop hurting each other. The pen is not mightier than the sword, so what good am I? I had my moment, and now it’s time for someone else to have theirs.” “That’s what I’m trying to do. But I need your help.” Jasper shook his head. “Sometimes,” he began as he looked past her, “I wish I never wrote a damn word.” When she didn’t reply, he grinned. “Come on Pipper, tell me why I should write again. Dazzle me with Tennyson, or Jane Austen, on how great being an author is. Tell me again why the world needs me.” Piper stared at him, mouth open. “Yep. That’s what I thought. Would you excuse me?” He turned and walked over to the fake phone booth. He opened the door secret door and vanished behind it. Sienna watched the exchange unfold and shook her head.
