Kilpack Enters Movie Option Agreement for Award-Winning Sci-Fi Novella Pale Face West Jordan, Uta. — Award-winning Utah author W.D. Kilpack III recently entered into an exclusive option agreement with Safe Harbor Films, LLC, to develop a feature film from his science-fiction novella, Pale Face. Kilpack will also be writing the screenplay. Kilpack said, "This is an amazing step for me as an author. It will be an amazing ride, I'm sure, going through the production process with all of the ups and downs that I've read about but will soon be seeing firsthand. With it being made by a small, independent production company, I'll get to be involved a lot more than otherwise, and that is extremely appealing. I've dreamt about seeing my books come to life on the big screen, although I may not be able to see the screen the first time, because I might be a sobbing mess. I can't wait!" Pale Face centers around Hector Whitehorse, who was born on a New Mexico reservation, but educated in the white-man’s school, making him part of two worlds, but at home in neither. It only got worse when his entrapment went from a feeling to a reality: trapped between Earth and someplace else after a close encounter nearly costs him his life. Tony A. Angelo, president of Safe Harbor Films, said, "We're so excited to officially bring Pale Face into our project lineup. The novella is brilliant and short enough that I read it while on a plane flight. I could see, smell, hear, touch, even taste things as they happened. I love the main character, Hector Whitehorse. I have also been fascinated by Native American culture for most of my life, so this will be a fun and exciting project, taking Western storytelling into a new genre-blending direction. We at Safe Harbor Films are so very excited for what the future holds!" Kilpack and Safe Harbor Films will make this production different through fan involvement. Angelo said, "Safe Harbor Films really believes in fostering creativity, so we're going to extend an opportunity to the book's readers or other Safe Harbor Films fans to take an active part. They can subscribe with Safe Harbor Films or the author and we will have ways for readers to go online and make suggestions for the film adaptation, like who they imagined as Hector or Dr. Masters when reading it, or what they imagined a particular scene looking like, or even just asking, 'What was your favorite scene from the book?' If people have not read the book yet, they can pick up the ebook cheap or get it on Kindle Unlimited for free, or even the paperback's inexpensive. I really look forward to getting that fan involvement!" Pale Face received Honorable Mention from the L Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest and recently received the International Firebird Book Award. These are two of the 23 book awards Kilpack has received, between Pale Face and his epic-fantasy series, The New Blood Saga, which is currently four books (of a planned eight). Soon, he will have a sixth book published, the epic sci-fi Battle Calm. International best-selling author Dave Wolverton said Pale Face is "pretty darned good. I like it. I love how [Hector] sees the aliens and the white men in the same light. A nice, brutal, ironic twist ... this is good stuff." V.J. Garske, author of The Raven Moonstone, said, "Pale Face pulled me in immediately. I loved the descriptive writing and the original plot. Hector grew up on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico, where UFO sitings are common, although not readily believed, but his experience changes his life in ways one wouldn't imagine. I enjoyed the fast pace and believable struggle as he deals with trying to make sense of his life-changing experience. Close encounters of an original kind!"
