Description

April and Beth have escaped, and their captor is dead. Freedom is in their grasp - if only they knew where they were. With some memories returning, April and Beth struggle to find answers to their questions. What they know is that they've been vaccinated against a strange virus. But what happened to their family, and to the rest of the world? As they head out, they stumble onto the compound where their nightmare began, but the empty building only brings more mystery into their lives. Soon, they encounter others wandering on the numerous trails throughout the woods. For April, finding her family is priority one; for Beth, it's sticking to the trails. How can April ever convince her to leave the forest and why are they being hunted?

I grew up in Los Angeles and still live there today, so I certainly know the city well enough to make it the main backdrop for my three novels, The Poe Consequence, You Say Goodbye, and In Lieu of Flowers. Having started my creative writing journey as a poet during my high school years, I eventually branched out as a song lyricist with limited professional success until awareness that I wanted to write a story suddenly washed over me like an invisible waterfall. Working through the number of years and hundreds of hours necessitated by my first two novels while working full time in the landscape industry presented a tremendous challenge, but through the maze of difficulty came the rays of achievement. In Lieu of Flowers, my third, novel, is the first I wrote after calling it a career which certainly aided the beginning to end timeframe. Whether readers of my books enjoy them or not, to borrow a sports analogy, I left it all out on the field with each one.
